Together we can fight infection

Infections can be introduced and spread by all of us. By following the points on this page, you can help us to prevent vulnerable individuals picking up an infection and prevent the onward spread to others. If patients pick up an infection, it can cause additional pain and anxiety. It might result in additional treatment or a hospital stay.

What can you expect from our Staff?

All of our clinical staff complete mandatory training in standard infection control precautions.

(SICPs) which includes hand hygiene and the wearing of personal protective equipment.

We will make sure that the environment is clean and well maintained. We undertake regular IPC audits which assess the environment, hand hygiene and insertion of cannula compliance against the national standard.

We would ask that you report any concerns you may have about the cleanliness of the unit or the level of hand hygiene observed to a member of staff.

What can you do?
  1. Make sure you are well when attending for your appointment relating to the following
  • Please let us know;
    • If you have had diarrhoea and/or vomiting, if so you should be symptom free for at least 48 hours before you attend for your scan
    • If you have any type of upper respiratory illness, please do not attend until the symptoms have improved, or you have completed any period of self-isolation
    • If you have any open wounds, a clean, waterproof dressing should cover them
  1. Have you had any contact with people with infections?

Please consider if you have been in close contact with someone with any type of infection. If you have then please let us know as it might be better to delay your scan so that if you are infectious you do not pass on the infection.

  1. Hand Hygiene

Hand hygiene is the most effective way of stopping infections passing from person to person. It is important to remember to wash your hands with soap and water after using the toilet and before eating or drinking. In most instances, the best way to protect yourselves and others is to use the alcohol gel which is available throughout the unit.Please feel free to remind others if they appear to have forgotten to cleanse their hands.
