Alliance Medical celebrates becoming a Living Wage employer

Monday, November 2, 2015

Alliance Medical, Europe’s leading independent provider of imaging services, has been accredited as a Living Wage employer.  The company’s commitment will see all employees working at Alliance Medical receive a minimum hourly wage in line with the recommendations set by the Living Wage Foundation.

Alliance Medical has extended the requirement that all workers assigned to the company will receive the Living Wage. This is in place for all workers engaged via an employment agency and the company is in the process of ensuring that the small team of third party contract workers will also receive the Living Wage.

Alliance Medical currently employs over 800 staff, providing over 120 medical imaging services to the NHS and independent sector and has developed services in partnership with local NHS Trusts.

The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually. The Living Wage is calculated according to the basic cost of living using the ‘Minimum Income Standard’ for the UK. Decisions about what to include in this standard are set by the public; it is a social consensus about what people need to make ends meet.

Pete Winchester, Corporate Services Director at Alliance Medical, said:

‘We are really proud to be a Living Wage employer and to receive the accreditation from the Living Wage Foundation. The standard and quality of the service we provide is really important and we believe it’s equally important to pay our employees fairly for their hard work and dedication.”

Living Wage Foundation Director, Sarah Vero said:

“We are delighted to welcome Alliance Medical to the Living Wage movement as an accredited employer.

“The best employers are voluntarily signing up to pay the Living Wage now. The Living Wage is a robust calculation that reflects the real cost of living, rewarding a hard day’s work with a fair day’s pay.

“We have accredited over 2,000 leading employers ranging from independent printers, hairdressers and breweries, to well-known companies such as Nationwide, Aviva and SSE. These businesses recognise that clinging to the national minimum wage is not good for business. Customers expect better than that.”
